There’s a new Australian film set to be released early next year, accordingly called The BBQ, which features some Aussie greats such as Shane Jacobson and Magda Szubanski as the legendary barbeque cook ‘The Butcher’.
The film tells the story of home BBQ enthusiast Dazza (Jacobson) and his quest to become the best BBQ chef, while redeeming himself for giving his friends a bad bout of food poisoning.
To win the international BBQ competition he seeks help from The Butcher, a scary Scottish butcher who can mentor him to win the big comp.
The film seemingly features every Australian stereotype under one roof, and even stars real-life celebrity chef Manu Feildel of My Kitchen Rules fame, who plays a pompous rival for Dazza.
It is always good to see potentially great films being produced in Australia, especially ones that feature Australian comedy legends.
Let’s just hope that the film focuses less on crass stereotypes and more on the Australian talent it’s showcasing.
The BBQ is released in Australia on 18 January 2018.
