New ‘Venom’ Trailer Sees More of Tom Hardy Play the Reluctant Anti-Hero

Tom Hardy’s Eddie Brock does not appear to bond too well with the Venom symbiote in the latest trailer for Sony’s Venom.

Reporter Eddie Brock (Hardy) becomes connected to an alien symbiote known as Venom, and the two must find a way to stop the head of an evil corporation from unleashing hell, and play nice together.

Unfortunately, this latest trailer for Venom does not instil much confidence in me.

I still can’t buy Tom Hardy in the role of a reporter in this film, and while the practical effects and cinematography look great – the symbiote/s didn’t do much for me.

The VFX appear up to standard, though it’s hard to take any of it seriously.

It’s possible that’s an intentional choice by director Ruben Fleischer, so I could still be proven wrong.

There’s definitely an element of dark humour in this one, though it didn’t seem to hit the mark in this latest trailer.

Considering Sony’s last two Amazing Spider-Man (2012-14) films were average at best, there is only room for improvement here.

Joining Hardy is an impressive cast that includes Riz Ahmed, Woody Harrelson, Jenny Slate and Michelle Williams.

The film is out on 4 October 2018.
