‘Tigers Are Not Afraid’ is a Dark, Mexican Cartel Fairy Tale – Trailer

tigers are not afraid trailer

When Stephen King, Guillermo del Toro and Neil Gaiman heap praise on a film, it automatically becomes a must-watch, and such is the case with Tigers Are Not Afraid.

I knew nothing about this supernatural fantasy film before today, but after viewing the trailer, am very happy I’m now in-the-know.

Written and directed by Issa Lopez, this chilling tale centres on a group of five children who have lost their parents to cartel violence.

Armed with three magic wishes, the children must navigate the ghosts of the past while escaping the clutches of the evil cartel.

The film feels like Pan’s Labyrinth (2006) set against Mexico’s drug war, with the group of children welcoming a new member who might have a connection to the supernatural.

There are some freaky things going on, with a toy tiger that appears to be alive.

It doesn’t make much sense but is intriguing nonetheless.

The less said the better, with the creepy trailer doing enough to perk my interest.

Tigers Are Not Afraid stars Paola Lara, Juan Ramón López, Ianis Guerrero, Rodrigo Cortes, Hanssel Casillas, Nery Arredondo, and Tenoch Huerta and it hits theatres on 24 August 2019.
