Matt Damon and Adam Driver Fight to the Death in ‘The Last Duel’

the last duel movie trailer

Ridley Scott’s latest The Last Duel is set in 14th century France and follows the story of the last officially sanctioned duel between two friends turned bitter rivals.

The Last Duel is a cinematic epic set during the Hundred Years’ War and is based on the true story of Jean de Carrouges (Matt Damon) and Jacques Le Gris (Adam Driver), two friends turned enemies after Le Gris assaults de Carrouges’ wife, Marguerite (Jodie Comer).

Marguerite speaks out about the assault, which puts her life at risk, while the two men face off in a battle to the death in France’s last sanctioned official duel.

This historical epic drama film looks like peak Ridley Scott, following the all-time classic Gladiator (2000), Kingdom of Heaven (2005), and Robin Hood (2010), to name a few.

The acclaimed director has assembled an outstanding cast for his latest, including Ben Affleck as Count Pierre d’Alençon (Affleck also takes a screenplay writing credit alongside Nicole Holofcener and Matt Damon).

The Last Duel looks stunning, with some beautiful cinematography and gorgeous historical set and costume design, truly transporting the audience to mediaeval times.

Furthermore, the film’s themes of bravery, justice, and fighting an oppressive institution are relevant to this day and should make for an exciting epic.

The Last Duel releases on 14 October 2021.
