Damien Chazelle’s ‘First Man’ is Intimate and Thrilling – Review

In 2017, at 32 years of age, Damien Chazelle became the youngest person ever to win the Best Director Oscar. He won that award for his work on La La Land, starring Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling. Chazelle again reunites with Gosling for his follow up feature First Man, and it’s possibly – perhaps almost certainly – his best film to date.

‘Game Night’ – How David Fincher Was Delightfully Parodied – Review

American comedies have lost their way. Rarely are modern audiences treated to the old-school almost-sophistication that was parody (see the classic work of Mel Brooks or even Jim Abrahams and The Zucker Brothers). This remains the Hollywood rule, sadly, but once in a while that delightful exception emerges , taking shape in John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein’s latest black comedy Game Night.

‘Manchester by the Sea’ – Review

There’s not too much I can say about Kenneth Lonergan’s latest film, Manchester by the Sea, without explaining the extreme weight of it. The film’s protagonist, Lee Chandler (Casey Affleck), bares a personal guilt so large, its force is felt so deeply that you start to wonder how powerfully trauma can be transferred from screen to seat.
