Idris Elba and the quirky characters that make up the rest of the Suicide Squad feature in the funny new trailer for the film.
The new trailer for James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad begins with a background look at Idris Elba’s Bloodsport, and it’s revealed that he’s serving prison time for putting Superman in the hospital with a kryptonite bullet!
Furthermore, we can see that his young daughter is being used against him as bait to join the Suicide Squad, prompting his entry to the doomed anti-hero team.
They’re doomed because straying from their mission means an untimely, violent death at the hands of the squad’s puppetmaster, Amanda Waller, played by Viola Davis, reprising her role from 2016’s Suicide Squad.
David Ayer’s 2016 film was met with a predominantly hostile reception and this year’s reboot promises to fix all the wrongs of that first film by adding more quirky characters, more humour, and more violence.
Gunn has upped the ante here, and while some of the humour is juvenile, there are some genuine laughs to be had.
The plot sees the Suicide Squad out on a mission to destroy a dangerous alien starfish creature, and there is sure to be plenty of deaths along the way.
The film features an outstanding cast alongside Elba and Davis, including Margot Robbie, John Cena, Joel Kinnaman, Sylvester Stallone, Jai Courtney, and Peter Capaldi.
See it in cinemas from 5 August 2021.
