Mark Wahlberg Re-Teams with Director Peter Berg in ‘Mile 22’

Mile 22 is an upcoming action thriller that marks the 4th time superstar actor Mark Wahlberg and director Peter Berg have worked together.

Wahlberg plays an elite intelligence officer, whom with his secret tactical command unit, attempts to smuggle a mysterious police officer (Iko Uwais) with sensitive information out of the country.

It’s pretty run-of-the-mill stuff plot-wise, and I can’t imagine this film will bring much new to the CIA/intelligence agency themed sub-genre of action thrillers.

What’s intriguing however is the cast that’s attached to this, and director Peter Berg definitely knows how to craft a tense and emotive thriller.

The addition of Iko Uwais is a nice touch, and with him will come some cool martial arts set pieces, as you’ll see in the trailer.

Hollywood legend John Malkovich is also on board, alongside Lauren Cohan and Ronda Rousey.

Berg and Wahlberg have worked together on past films like Patriots Day (2016), Deepwater Horizon (2016) and Lone Survivor (2013), all of which were relatively entertaining films.

Mile 22 appears to have somewhat of a raw look and feel to it, which should help increase the tension.

It hits cinemas on 23 August in Australia.
