Claire Foy takes on the role of Lisbeth Salander from Rooney Mara and Fede Alvarez takes over directing duties from David Fincher in this sequel to 2011’s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.
A vengeance driven computer hacker and journalist find themselves caught up in a web of spies, corruption and cyber-criminals in The Girl in the Spider’s Web.
The first trailer for the film doesn’t pull any punches in terms of its intensity, showcasing the film’s lead character, Lisbeth Salander, in all her brutal glory, as she threatens a rich woman-beater’s life.
From there we get several glimpses of the action, drama and intrigue to expect from the film, but little in the way of the plot.
This first trailer simply serves its purpose in introducing Foy in the lead role, taking over duties from Rooney Mara while setting the tone for the film.
Fede Alvarez replaces David Fincher in this sequel, and it looks like there’ll be a similar thrilling, and tense tone running throughout it.
It’s a great combination of director and cast, with Claire Foy having a standout turn on television’s popular series The Crown (2016-), and more recently appearing in Steven Soderbergh’s film Unsane (2018).
Alvarez famously directed the Evil Dead (2013) remake, which was as horrific as it gets for a horror film, but also the stellar horror-thriller Don’t Breathe (2016) – another triumph for the director.
We can expect the film in theatres on 8 November 2018.
