Kumail Nanjiani and Issa Rae Feature in New Comedy ‘The Lovebirds’

The Big Sick (2017) director Michael Showalter and actor-comedian Kumail Nanjiani reunite for the new romantic murder-mystery, The Lovebirds.

Romantic comedies are a dime-a-dozen these days so whenever the genre is presented in an interesting way that’s not your standard boy-meets-girl storyline, I’m usually keen to see what’s on offer.

The Lovebirds fits that bill and looks like a hysterical take on the rom-com genre with a stellar cast headlined by Issa Rae and Kumail Nanjiani.

On the verge of breaking up, Rae and Nanjiani are involved in a murder and forced to put their differences aside in the hope of clearing their names.

With the police hot on their tails, the duo must spend the night trying to find the real killer while working through the problems plaguing their relationship.

The trailer is quite funny and is the perfect vehicle for Rae and Nanjiani.

Both are exceptional talents set for a massive 2020, with Rae already garnering great reviews for the upcoming drama The Photograph, and Nanjiani is set to surprise as the muscular Kingo Sunen in Marvel’s Eternals.

The film co-stars Paul Sparks, Anna Camp, and Kyle Bornheimer and is directed by Michael Showalter from a script by Aaron Abrams and Brendan Gall.
