Jodie Foster leads an awesome cast of crooks in Hotel Artemis, a violent action-thriller film with a unique take on the genre.
Fans of crime-action films will be familiar with the common trope of an injured criminal being sent to a shady underground doctor that treats their own.
Well what if the doctor was based in a hotel that served as a private hospital for violent criminals, where each injured patient was protected by a series of rules, to avoid any violence there?
That is the setting for Hotel Artemis, however things go south when Sterling K. Brown’s crook character brings a coveted item into the hotel, which in turn draws in some violent criminals that aren’t too happy about playing by the rules.
It’s an interesting take on what appears to be a basic storyline, with the setting for the film being somewhat original.
However fans of the John Wick series will immediately recognise the comparison between the Hotel Artemis and the Continental Hotel featured in the Wick films, which itself is a safe-haven for crims.
Nevertheless, this film looks like it will offer plenty of entertainment value for action-fans, and it features a great cast to boot.
Joining Foster and Brown are Sofia Boutella, Dave Bautista, Jeff Goldblum, Jenny Slate, Charlie Day and Zachary Quinto.
The film is directed by Drew Pearce, who makes his directorial debut here after having written such films as Iron Man 3 (2013) and Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation (2015).
Hotel Artemis releases on 20 July in the UK.
