Jackie Chan Takes on Arnold Schwarzenegger in ‘The Iron Mask’

the iron mask movie

Fifteen years since they first appeared on screen together in the box office bomb Around the World in 80 Days (2004), Arnold Schwarzenegger and martial arts expert Jackie Chan are back together again in the historical blockbuster The Iron Mask.

Not to be confused with Leonardo DiCaprio’s The Man in the Iron Mask (1998), this flick is a sequel to 2014s action-adventure film, Forbidden Kingdom.

Originally released in China last year with the title Journey To China: The Mystery Of Iron Mask, this Chinese-Russian co-production looks passably interesting.

British actor Jason Flemyng reprises his role as cartographer and traveler Jonathan Green, who is this time ordered by Peter the Great to map the Russian Far East.

The trailer is visually stunning with this period piece mixing fiction with historical events as Green encounters strange lands, black magic and even a dragon on his journey across Russia and into China.

The highlight of the trailer is a battle between Chan’s Master and Arnie’s James Hook in the Tower of London, with the two sprouting wisecracks as they battle with swords and a chain.

Game Of Thrones’ Charles Dance, Russian actress Anna Churina and Blade Runner’s (1982) Rutger Hauer also star in this film directed by Oleg Stepchenko.

The Iron Mask hits theatres on 10 April 2020.
