Vin Diesel and the gang are back for the next instalment of the epic Fast & Furious franchise, and the filmmakers have once again outdone themselves.
Fast & Furious 9 (F9) is the next entry in the long-running action film franchise (twenty years to be precise) and features Vin Diesel’s return as Dominic Torreto.
His ‘family’ is back and with him, and this time, they’ll face their most formidable foe yet, Dom’s brother Jakob (John Cena).
The plot details are pretty sketchy as the trailer doesn’t give much away, instead choosing to focus on the themes (family, revenge, friendship etc.), and of course, the epic fast and furious action this franchise is best known for.
This time around, the filmmakers have upped the ante even further, and the film sees the gang seemingly on their way to space (or at least will be by the end of the film, setting up the next sequel).
That’s only a tiny tidbit from the trailer, and the rest of the action looks as bonkers as it gets, setting this film up to be one of the greats of the genre.
Sure, many of the set pieces are filled with CGI, but the ideas behind them are ludicrous to the point of being awesome.
Joining Diesel and Cena in supporting roles are series regulars Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Jordana Brewster, Nathalie Emmanuel and Sung Kang, with Oscar winners Helen Mirren and Charlize Theron.
Director Justin Lin is back at the helm after directing the third, fourth, fifth and sixth entries in the series.
See F9 in theatres from 17 June 2021.
