The latest Bumblebee trailer sees the film’s hero form an unlikely friendship while featuring some cool Gen 1 Transformer designs.
Charlie Watson (Hailee Steinfeld) purchases an old beat-up VW Beetle, only to discover that the car is, in fact, the famous transforming Autobot, Bumblebee.
Bumblebee is on the run from what appears to be a war on his home planet of Cybertron.
The two form a unique friendship as they learn to make their way in the world, with the government and the evil Decepticons on their tail.
The last few Transformers films under the direction of Michael Bay have been poor, at best.
This latest spinoff in the franchise, under the tutelage of Travis Knight, could be a rejuvenating return to form for the series.
That is if you even consider the first Transformers (2007) film ever had any form (I enjoyed it at least).
Bumblebee appears to be less bloated than the last couple of films, focusing more on the relationship between the yellow fan-favourite robot in disguise and its lead human protagonist.
There is, of course, plenty of epic action, of which we can see several glimpses of in the new trailer below.
What’s even more exciting, however, is that the Transformer designs have been tweaked in this film to resemble those of the 1st Generation cartoon series.
The film is set in 1987, so it makes perfect sense to have gone in that design direction.
The Gen 1 look is the most well-known and iconic look for the Transformers and should please many a fan that was put off by Michael Bay’s updated vision of them.
A more-classic looking Optimus Prime, Soundwave and Starscream make an appearance in the trailer, and all look fantastic.
Joining Steinfeld is John Cena, Pamela Adlon and Jorge Lendeborg Jr. in the prominent human roles.
Angela Bassett, Justin Theroux and the iconic voice of Peter Cullen are on board to voice some Transformers.
Bumblebee hits cinemas on 20 December 2018.
