Kristen Stewart features in the upcoming horror-sci-fi film, Underwater, which sees a team of researchers discover something deadly at the bottom of the ocean.
Underwater has some serious Alien (1979) vibes to it, with a similarly dark and nightmarish setting.
The film sees a team of researchers having to cross the ocean floor on foot after an earthquake destroys their laboratory.
The horror begins when the team finds some type of murderous subterranean creature down there.
The film co-stars T.J. Miller and Vincent Cassel and appears to feature all of the standard tropes that come with this type of genre film.
It may have some surprises for us in the final product, though from what we can see in the trailer, it definitely feels like there’s nothing new.
However, director William Eubank and cinematographer Bojan Bazelli have managed to create a dark and atmospheric underwater world that makes for an excellent horror film setting.
Kristen Stewart plays the Ellen Ripley equivalent here and the role suits her quite well.
The Twilight (2008) star will also appear in another action-centric role in the upcoming Charlie’s Angels (2019) reboot.
Underwater releases on 10 January 2020.
