Wannabe rockers and time travelers Bill and Ted are back for a sequel nearly thirty years in the making with Bill & Ted Face the Music.
Bill (Alex Winter) and Ted (Keanu Reeves), now in middle age, are still trying to fulfill their destinies and write a classic hit song that will unite the world.
With their kids in tow (Samara Weaving and Brigette Lundy-Paine), the pair will use their time-traveling abilities to visit the future, to a point in time where they have already written their legendary song, and steal it from themselves.
As per the Bill & Ted formula, a whole lot of tomfoolery will follow.
The first teaser gives fans the basic outline of the film’s plot, as well as glimpses of the main characters’ kids and an old fan-favorite – Death (William Sadler), who played a key role in 1991’s Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey.
It feels a bit awkward seeing Winter and Reeves reprise their roles as these goofball characters so many years later, and it will be interesting to see if a younger audience will take to this film considering the lead actors’ ages, though the casting of Samara Weaving and Brigette Lundy-Paine as the duo’s kids may usher a future series of films should Face the Music be a hit.
Winter and Reeves were perfectly cast in their teen years as Bill and Ted, with both Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure (1989) and Bogus Journey both going on to become cult comedy classics.
Since then Reeves has built a remarkable career for himself, fronting popular franchises like The Matrix and John Wick, with Winter carving out a respectable career behind the scenes as a film and TV director.
Face the Music is directed by Dean Parisot, who directed another cult classic film in 1999’s Galaxy Quest.
The film is due out in cinemas on 27 August 2020.
