Anthony Mackie leads the Netflix action sci-fi film Outside the Wire, set in a futuristic war zone where men battle machines.
Drone pilot Leo (Damson Idris) is sent out into the field under the guidance of the android soldier Harp (Anthony Mackie), and the two must enter a dangerous warzone to locate a doomsday device.
Outside the Wire is a unique mix of war-movie and science-fiction, with elements of The Terminator (1984) and Robocop (1987).
The official teaser below doesn’t give away too much of the plot, but we can see that Mackie’s character is either a futuristic human-looking robot or a human-machine hybrid soldier.
We get a decent look at the robot designs in the film which are really cool, and the overall tone of the film, which is quite gritty.
The film is directed by Mikael Håfström, whose past work includes the Schwarzenegger/Stallone action film Escape Plan (2013), the Anthony Hopkins-starring horror The Rite (2011), and the underrated 1408 (2007) with John Cusack and Samuel L. Jackson.
Outside the Wire follows the trend of Netflix exclusive action blockbusters such as The Old Guard (2020) and Extraction (2020), both of which were thoroughly entertaining, and featured high production values and big stars.
Check it out on Netflix from 15 January 2021.
