‘Alien: Covenant’ Teaser Poster Released

20th Century Fox today released a teaser poster for Alien: Covenant, the upcoming sequel to 2012’s Prometheus, the sci-fi horror prequel to the Alien films.

The teaser poster only gives us a glimpse at the Xenomorph alien made famous in Ridley Scott’s 1979 classic film, Alien.

Scott recently returned to the Alien universe after directing 2012’s Prometheus, which served as a prequel to the film he directed 20+ years earlier.

That film was met with a mixed reception, however I thoroughly enjoyed it.

It wasn’t a perfect film by any stretch and it doesn’t compare to the original 1979 film, nor its sequel Aliens (1986), that was famously directed by James Cameron.

However as far as reboots of franchises for a modern audience go, it hit the mark in my opinion, offering some awe-inspiring visuals and a thought-provoking storyline.

Scott is also directing that film’s sequel as part of a planned trilogy, with all three films set before the events of the original Alien film.

Nothing too specific is known about Covenant, however the film’s official synopsis is as follows:

Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discover what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world, whose sole inhabitant is the synthetic David, survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.

Fans of Prometheus will remember the cybernetic unit David played by Michael Fassbender, who reprises his role in Covenant.

Noomi Rapace also returns, and is joined by an outstanding cast that includes Katherine Waterston, Guy Pearce, Billy Crudup, Danny McBride and Demián Bichir.

It’s great to see Australia’s own Guy Pearce in that list, along with Billy Crudup; two completely underrated actors.

The film is due out on 3 August 2017 in Australia.
