As you may have guessed from the title, Michael Bay is back with his signature style of ‘bayhem’ in 6 Underground, starring Ryan Reynolds.
6 Underground follows a group of six billionaires who fake their own deaths and form an elite vigilante killing squad, with the aim to take out some of the world’s worst criminals.
How they gain these high-capacity skills is anyone’s guess, though it appears the team members, led by Ryan Reynolds, all come from some type of military or professional killing background.
That’s beside the point really – this being a Michael Bay film, we’re here for the explosions and there’s sure to be plenty in this one.
This will be the prolific director’s first film since 2017’s Transformers: The Last Knight and his signature style of ‘bayhem’ is in full force here.
For those unaware, the term refers to ‘The cinematic conceit of blowing shit up on a large scale, in slow motion and (usually) at sunset.’, as per Urban Dictionary, which, if you’ve seen any of Michael Bay’s prior films makes complete sense.
Bay has received a fair bit of ridicule over the Transformers films though you can’t deny the director’s expertise in putting on a good light show.
6 Underground, for example, looks like it has every type of action set-piece imaginable featured in it, which should please action-film fans.
He’s joined by Ben Hardy and Mélanie Laurent and the film is due out on Netflix on 13 December 2019.
