‘Valerian’ – “See You in Space” Featurette with Luc Besson

Check out the new video featurette for the upcoming sci-fi epic Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, with the film’s director, Luc Besson.

Before I continue, I just have to say how wowed I am each time I see a video of this film’s visual effects.

The range of colour and depth in creature and world design appears to be truely next-level; very impressive stuff.

The new video features director Luc Besson talk about his love for the original comic book series that inspired this film, as well as lots of gorgeous visuals from the film.

It sounds like Valerian is a labour-of-love project for Besson, which should make for a better film as it’s always good to see a director’s passion-project relayed on the screen.

The director is well known for his slightly offbeat style of genre films, his most notable including Leon: The Professional (1994) and The Fifth Element (1997) just to name a couple.

The above films both fall under the classic crime-drama and science-fiction genres, but watching them it’s obvious they have their own particular style.

It’s this style that separates Besson from other directors, and I hope Valerian does well for him, not only as an entertaining piece of cinema, but also at the box office.

The film stars Dane DeHaan and Cara Delevingne in the lead roles, along with Clive Owen, Rihanna, Ethan Hawke and Rutger Hauer in supporting roles.

It releases across cinemas on 10 August 2017.

Any Besson/Sci-fi fans out there looking forward to this? Leave a comment below.
