Shaft the original (Richard Roundtree), the new (Samuel L. Jackson), and the junior (Jessie T. Usher) all feature in the upcoming Shaft feature film from Warner Bros.
John Shaft Jr. (Usher) enlists the help of his estranged father John Shaft II (Jackson) to help uncover the mystery behind his best friend’s death in the upcoming Shaft reboot film.
For good measure, the original star of Shaft (1971), Richard Roundtree, makes an appearance to unite the family of vengeful private eyes.
The film looks like it will be a lot of fun judging by this new trailer.
We can expect plenty of laughs and violence, all done with the incredible swagger audiences have come to expect from this character.
The character of John Shaft entered the film universe back in 1971 with Roundtree in the lead and became a cult-classic character of the screen.
After this new entry, Roundtree would have appeared in all five films of the series spanning over four decades.
This is the latest reboot of the film series after Samuel L. Jackson took the lead in John Singleton’s 2000 film Shaft (it appears the filmmakers have given up coming up with creative titles for these films).
The latest addition to the cast, Jessie T. Usher, will likely take over the reins for future film instalments, assuming that this new film does well at the box office.
Going by the trailer, it looks like it could be a hit.
Shaft arrives in cinemas on 14 June 2019.
