The new Netflix sci-fi film In the Shadow of the Moon is part cop movie, part crime movie, part mystery and part sci-fi.
Boyd Holbrook plays Thomas Lockhart, a cop on a mission to track down a serial killer who can’t seem to be killed and keeps coming back every 9 years to commit more crimes, without aging.
Lockhart’s obsession with the criminal threatens to destroy his family and career and might also drive him mad.
This new Netflix sci-fi film from director Jim Mickle appears to have come out of nowhere, though it looks like a nice treat for sci-fi fans.
It definitely comes across as more of a cop movie first and foremost, with added sci-fi elements surrounding time travel.
It’s intriguing stuff, though films like these can often become convoluted if the script isn’t handled carefully.
The trailer suggests that it’s a film you’d want to be paying close attention to at all times and it will be interesting to see how Mickle brings together the film’s mystery and sci-fi elements.
The director’s past work includes the awesome English-language horror remake We Are What We Are (2013) and the not so awesome Cold in July (2014), which sounded better on paper.
Michael C. Hall, Bokeem Woodbine and Cleopatra Coleman co-star and the film hits Netflix on 27 September 2019.
