Michelle Payne Biography Told in Trailer for ‘Ride Like a Girl’

Michelle Payne melbourne cup

Michelle Payne made history in 2015 when she rode the thoroughbred Prince Of Penzance to victory at the prestigious Melbourne Cup horse race.

A hundred-to-one outsider, Michelle Payne (played by Teresa Palmer) did the unthinkable and turned a dream into a reality, with new Aussie flick Ride Like a Girl documenting her rise to glory.

Directed by Aussie favourite Rachel Griffiths, her debut behind the camera, Ride Like a Girl follows Payne as she leaves school at 15 to become a jockey.

When a family tragedy strikes and Payne suffers a near-fatal horse fall, it appears her quest to become one of the few female jockeys in the business are all but over.

But with the help of her single father Paddy (Sam Neill) and Down syndrome brother Stevie (played by the real-life Stevie Payne), Payne continues to pursue her dreams and does something nobody thought possible.

This feel-good flick is sure to highlight the Aussie underdog spirit and never-say-die ethos while celebrating one of the country’s greatest sporting achievements.

Ride Like a Girl will be in cinemas from 26 September 2019.
