Human Game Hunting Features in Teaser for New Blumhouse Thriller

game hunting movies

The new Blumhouse’ thriller The Hunt is a cross between Surviving the Game (1994) and Hard Target (1993); films that feature human game hunting as a key plot point.

The teaser trailer for Blumhouse Productions’ The Hunt introduces viewers to Manor House, a remote game reserve where humans are the prey.

Part of some dark internet conspiracy, humans are tracked and hunted for pleasure by society’s elite.

Of course, things don’t go to plan when one of the victims, Crystal (Betty Gilpin), who understands how the hunt works, fights back against her attackers, taking them out one by one.

Her ultimate goal is to find the mysterious mastermind of the game, portrayed by two-time Oscar-winner Hilary Swank.

While the trailer plays more like an advertisement for potential hunters, it’s shot with tongue firmly in cheek.

The Hunt feels like a mash-up of the Ice-T classic Surviving The Game and Jean-Claude Van Damme’s underrated Hard Target, just with a bigger budget and a little more humour.

Gilpin and Swank are joined by Ike Barinholtz, Emma Roberts and Amy Madigan.

The addition of a script from The Leftovers’ collaborators Damon Lindelof and Nick Cuse and direction from Craig Zobel, along with the production house behind films like Get Out (2017) and The Purge (2013-) fills me with the hope that this one might be more than your run-of-the-mill action-horror feature.

The Hunt is set for release on 27 September 2019.
