The Death of Dick Long is an upcoming dark comedy that sees a group of friends from a small town get in over their heads when one of their own dies.
Dick Long (Daniel Scheinert) dies after a night of shenanigans with his friends.
The following day, upon hearing the news, his friends Zeke ( Michael Abbott Jr.) and Earl (Andre Hyland) begin to panic as word gets out about Dick’s death.
It would appear his death may have been an accident due to tomfoolery, so what do they have to hide?
Well, that’s what’s been left out of the intriguing trailer for this new film from A24 and director Daniel Scheinert (one half of the directing duo behind 2016’s Swiss Army Man).
The film is based in a small town (one of my favourite sub-genres) where everyone knows each other, so keeping anything a secret is hard, let alone a death and/or potential murder.
And the people in this small town… Let’s just say they’re not the brightest.
The Death of Dick Long follows in the trend of small-town black-comedies like the Coen brothers’ classic, Fargo (1996), and looks like it will be a laugh up until things take a dark turn, of which I can almost be certain will happen.

It releases on 27 September 2019.
