City of Lies follows the story of the controversial unsolved murder case of rapper Biggie Smalls, starring Johnny Depp and Forest Whitaker.
Journalist Jack Jackson (Whitaker) sets out to uncover the true story and alleged cover-up of facts surrounding the murder of famous rapper Biggie Smalls, by talking to the lead detective on the original case, Russell Poole (Depp).
What he uncovers may have far-reaching consequences for the LAPD and the rest of the nation.
Based on a true story, City of Lies is adapted from the book LAbyrinth by Randall Sullivan.
The murders of two of rap music’s biggest icons, Tupac Shakur and Biggie Smalls, remain unsolved to this day, over 20 years after the fact.
The film looks riveting to say the least, and looks to feature strong performances from its two leads.
Should director Brad Furman keep the narrative twisting and turning, then we should be in for an entertaining piece of cinema here, based on some of the most intriguing high profile murders ever.
Both Tupac and Biggie changed the music landscape forever during their peak, however gang mentality, amongst other factors, led to their untimely, early demise.
Tupac’s life was recently explored in the film All Eyez on Me (2017), and Biggie’s prior to that in the 2009 film Notorious.
City of Lies is due to hit cinemas on 7 September 2018.
