Brawl in Cell Block 99 is the upcoming film from the writer/director of Bone Tomahawk (2015), and it features regular funnyman Vince Vaughn like you’ve never seen him before.
Vaughn plays a former boxer-turned-drug runner that lands in a prison battleground after a deal gets deadly.
The IMDB synopsis doesn’t give much away, however neither does the new teaser trailer below.
We do however get to see the gritty tone the film is going for, as well as a look into Vince Vaughn’s potentially psychotic character.
This is truly an uncharacteristic role for Vaughn to take on, as he’s most commonly known for his illustrious career in comedy films.
His look, performance, and tone of the film all come together quite nicely though, based on the first teaser.
S. Craig Zahler directs the film, in his long-awaited follow-up to his excellent (yet underrated) film Bone Tomahawk.
Fans of that film will know not too trust too much of what they see in the trailers, as the final product will likely end up being a lot more shocking than what is teased.
It looks like Brawl in Cell Block 99 could follow that same path, which would be a great outcome.
There’s no official release date for this one as yet, however it’s slated as due for release in September 2017 in the USA on IMDB.
Has anyone seen Bone Tomahawk?
