Blockbuster Movie 2018 Release Date Announcements

Three big studio films get a release date for the 2018 season, including one film that’s been announced for the first time.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix

Release date: 2 November 2018

Well this news seemed to come out of nowhere. Sophie Turner (pictured above in 2016’s X-Men Apocalypse) is set to reprise her role as Jean Grey in the fourth instalment of the latest series of X-Men films. It was fair to assume that another film was in the works, however it has now been confirmed, with the next film set to tackle the Dark Phoenix storyline. We’ve already seen a bit that story appear in past X-Men films such as in 2006’s X-Men: The Last Stand, however none of the films to date have paid that story-arc its dues yet. Simon Kinberg is rumoured to be directing this one, and we can only hope he and his team do the Dark Phoenix saga justice.

The Predator

Release date: 3 August 2018

The upcoming film The Predator will be a direct sequel to the 1987 classic action/sci-fi film Predator that famously starred Arnold Schwarzenegger. While Schwarzenegger himself isn’t on-board to make an appearance in the sequel, the film does sport an awesome cast (pictured above), headlined by Boyd Holbrook. Shane Black, director of The Nice Guys (2016) and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (2005) is directing the film. Fans of the first Predator film will recognise Black as playing the character Hawkins in the original. Here’s hoping we get a trailer for this one soon.

deadpool 2

Deadpool 2

Release date: 1 June 2018

Everyone’s favourite modern-day anti-hero Deadpool is back in 2018, in the sequel to his smash-hit 2016 film. Ryan Reynolds reprises his role as the title character, and while not much is known about what to expect from the film’s plot, a recent casting announcement was made seeing Josh Brolin enter the fold as the fan-favourite comic-book character Cable. David Leitch, the uncredited co-director of John Wick (2014), and the completely credited director of the upcoming Charlize Theron action film Atomic Blone (2017) is set to direct, so we can be sure to expect a high-intensity action-adventure film out of Deadpool 2.
