After saving the President in Olympus Has Fallen (2013) and London Has Fallen (2016), Gerard Butler’s Secret Service Agent Mike Banning faces a new threat in Angel Has Fallen.
How Butler has managed to turn these films into a franchise is anyone’s guess, but the Scottish heartthrob obviously has a big-enough fan base to warrant another chapter featuring protagonist Banning.
After an assassination attempt on the Commander in Chief Allan Trumbull (this time played by the always wonderful Morgan Freeman) fails, Banning finds himself framed for the attack, even though it’s obvious from the trailer he’s the one that saved Trumbull.
Logic aside, Banning finds himself a marked man on the run from his own agency and the FBI, forced to use all his training and skills to clear his name.
Anyone who’s seen either of the previous two Has Fallen films knows this will be a decent action flick with Butler trying his best to master an American accent, and failing.
The supporting cast looks set to elevate this from a rather tedious release, with Jada Pinkett Smith, Lance Reddick, Tim Blake Nelson, Piper Perabo, Nick Nolte and Danny Huston all appearing.
Angel Has Fallen will be in cinemas from 23 August 2019.
