Check out the trailer for the upcoming film Always Shine, a thriller starring Mackenzie Davis and Caitlin FitzGerald, directed by Sophia Takal.
The trailer for this looks pretty good; a film about two actress friends that seem to turn on each other while on a weekend getaway.
I haven’t seen director Sophia Takal’s other film, 2011’s Green, however by the sounds of it, she appears to be an up and coming director to keep an eye on.
Always Shine stars Mackenzie Davis of TV’s Halt and Catch Fire fame, who is likely to break out big in Hollywood soon, with a recent role in Ridley Scott’s The Martian, as well as an upcoming role in the Blade Runner 2049.
Alongside Davis is Caitlin FitzGerald, a regular on the popular TV series Masters of Sex.
Being a massive thriller fan, especially psychological thrillers, this film looks very appealing to me, though I will be approaching it with cautious optimism as a lot of these indie thrillers tend to go either way, but when they hit the mark, they hit it nicely.
A little fun fact: Mackenzie Davis picked up the award for Best Actress at the 2016 Tribeca Film Festival for this film.
The official synopsis for the film is as follows:
Two friends, both actresses (Halt and Catch Fire’s Mackenzie Davis and Masters of Sex’s Caitlin FitzGerald), leave Los Angeles for Big Sur embarking on a weekend getaway to reconnect. Once alone, however, the two women’s suppressed jealousies and deep-seated resentments bubble to the surface, causing them to lose grasp not just of the true nature of their relationship, but also of their own identities.
Always Shine hits cinemas on 2 December 2016 in the USA, check out the trailer below.
